Quite a number of Spanish lawyers who practise in areas where foreigners settle speak excellent English or other languages like German, French or Dutch and are used to dealing with foreign residents in Spain. Conventional wisdom says that the buyer always needs a Spanish lawyer but the seller may not. We say that the seller, in the complex world of international property transfer, really ought to have a Spanish lawyer too.

Your estate agent may be perfectly competent, but complications can arise outside his or her area of expertise. It is always better to have two people working for you, both the estate agent and your lawyer.
