We are happy to announce that we are back online. JM Promotions supports Malaga Estates and Luxury Homes, among other sites. In the last week of August 2017 our provider in the USA went broke. A sad story and we keep on supporting this creative and innovative internet entrepreneur David Wood. But we had to find a solution for the migration of all our websites and blogs including this one. Within 48 hours we had Malaga Estates and Luxury Homes up and running. Today we are glad that we can close the major part of the migration project.

Is there a KFC in Torrox or Nerja?

The Costa del Sol resorts of Torrox and Nerja have become more and more popular in the last few years. Nerja has been famous for its attractiveness and nice bays for many, many years. Torrox, however, has been gaining lots of popularity in the recent years. First of all thanks to its rich history and natural resources. Have you ever visited its large beach adjacent to a promenade full of bars, restaurants and entertainment? Both the (main) beach and the promenade start at the lighthouse and end in neighbouring El Morche. Secondly, the local government has invested many time and money in promoting Torrox and it surroundings. Check the Facebook pages of Mayor Óscar Medina España and of Councillor of Tourism Sandra Extremera to find out what they have done in order to promote Torrox both in Spain and abroad in the last few years, including on trade fairs in London and Berlin. In addition, they consult local foreign residents so that these can help them promoting Torrox in their home countries like for example in Germany and Norway.

Nice, but what about KFC in Torrox and Nerja?

My apologies, this post indeed is about whether or not you will find a Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC in Torrox or Nerja. The answer is ¨no¨. But does this mean you that cannot enjoy that specific American-style fried chicken in this area? I might have good news for you! On my daily walk over the Torrox-Costa promenade mentioned above, I found out that there were new people in a place where a good friend of mine operated a Brazilian food concept between 2009 and 2015. From 2015 another Brazilian guy continued that business until recently. Today I saw other people around including a sign that says ¨Qué Pasa¨, the name of this new restaurant located first line beach on the Torrox-Costa promenade. I started a chat with Manuel, a Spanish guy from the Canary Islands. After some small talk he recommended me to try the ¨Canarian fried chicken¨. To be honest, I did not know what to expect at all. I tried to stay close to the famous KFC concept and ordered (Canarian) coleslaw, a corncob and 3 pieces of Canarian fried chicken. Of course taste is very personal, but what I concluded during and after the meal was that I like this Canarian fried chicken much more than KFC. By the way, my wife fully agreed!

So the Canarian fried chicken at Que Pasa in Torrox-Costa is a good alternative for KFC?

In my personal opinion it certainly is. But again, taste is very personal! If I were you I would certainly try the Canarian fried chicken at Que Pasa en Torrox-Costa. You will find them on the corner with Avenida América, located between Ferrara and Arco Iris.

The best climate in Europe is found in Spain, but where exactly? According to an investigation among 21 coastal resorts in Europe, there is a place with an average yearly temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and only 54 days of rain. This place is located along the Costa del Sol in the province of Málaga.

In the middle of the Costa del Sol, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Natural Park Sierra de Alhama, Tejeda y de Almijara, you will find Torrox and Nerja. Meteogroup who did the climate investigation among those 21 coastal resorts in Europe now confirms that the area of Torrox and Nerja is really having the best climate in Europe. Especially Torrox has been using this in their advertising slogans, but now it has been proven that it is not a slogan only. With an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and not more than an average of 54 days of rain, the climate around Torrox and Nerja is reaching perfection.

In this area of Torrox and Nerja people enjoy a subtropical Mediterranean climate without any extremes. The maximum temperature in summer is 32 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum temperature in winter is 10 degrees Celsius. October 2016 reports show foreign buyers went sun chasing in October, with areas like Torrox-Costa, Nerja and the Costa del Sol now trending.

This is something we see basically every year, but it comes at the end of a particularly good year for Torrox-Costa, Nerja and the Costa del Sol. The Ministry of Development (Fomento) just reported a healthy rise in foreign sales, particularly in Torrox-Costa where a major part of all house sales in Q2 2016 went to non-Spanish buyers.

Nederlandse makelaar Costa del Sol: huizenkopers zien door de bomen het bos niet meer!

¨De huizenmarkt in Spanje en die aan de Costa del Sol in het bijzonder is door de decennia heen altijd al vrij chaotisch geweest¨, aldus JM van Dolder, Nederlandse makelaar Costa del Sol. Eén van de redenen hiervoor is simpelweg het feit dat iedereen huizen te koop mag aanbieden, daarvoor hoeft niemand bepaalde kwalificaties of diploma´s te behalen. Met – in theorie – alleen een autorisatie van de verkoper en de documentatie van de betreffende woning in bezit mag een makelaar een woning in Spanje te koop aanbieden. Maar niet alleen een makelaar! Dit mag de locale café-eigenaar ook, en de huisvrouw die handig is op internet, de uitbater van het tankstation….. Aardige mensen vaak, maar meestal geen vakmensen als het gaat om de onroerendgoedsector! Wist u bijvoorbeeld dat niet alles dat op een woning lijkt daadwerkelijk als woning (¨vivienda¨) verkocht mag worden? De diverse internationale huizenportalen die woningen in Spanje aanbieden geven mede om deze reden vaak een heel verkeerd beeld van het aanbod!

Het kopen van een woning in Spanje is voor de meeste mensen een vrij grote investering. Bij het kopen van een woning in Spanje gaat het ook vaak nog eens om het investeren van de door hard werken bij elkaar gespaarde centen. Kopen mensen een woning in hun eigen land, dan zouden ze wel uitkijken om met ¨zomaar iemand¨ in zee te gaan, alleen omdat hij of zij leuke foto´s van een woning laat zien. Het gekke is – en dat geldt lang niet alleen voor Nederlanders en Belgen – dat bij de aankoop van een woning in Spanje het soms lijkt alsof kopers alle ¨common sense¨, kennis en intelligentie overboord gooien en bijvoorbeeld in één week tijd met 5 tussenpersonen (al dan niet gekwalificeerd) in totaal 30 woningen gaan kijken waarvan enkele meerdere malen met verschillende tussenpersonen.

¨De woningmarkt aan de Costa del Sol is niet transparant¨, hoor ik mensen wel eens zeggen. Of: ¨We zien door de bomen het bos niet meer¨.

Het feit dat praktisch iedereen in Spanje woningen te koop mag aanbieden en verkopers een ongelimiteerd aantal tussenpersonen mogen inschakelen, is helaas een gegeven en daar kunnen we niks aan veranderen. Hoe kunnen wij en hoe kunt u ZELF er nou voor zorgen dat u uw ideale woning in Spanje op een enigszins doeltreffende wijze vindt?

Door in zee te gaan met één, maximaal twee locale en gekwalificeerde makelaars die luisteren naar uw wensen, weten wat ze verkopen en beschikken over een solide netwerk van professionals.

Torrox-News – De Oranjerie and La Bahía del Faro working together inviting country rock band The Jack Cade Rebellion

De Oranjerie and La Bahía del Faro are both bars/small restaurants located along the Torrox-Costa promenade that opened their doors recently. Being good neighbours they are now working together offering you live country rock music performed by The Jack Cade Rebellion.

The performance will start this Saturday 16 July from 9.00pm. Everybody is more than welcome!

Both businesses are located adjacent to each other. You will find them along the Torrox-Costa promenade near the lighthouse. Walking down the stairs you will easily find them on your right hand side.

The Jack Cade Rebellion are:
Dave Cade – voice and guitars
Martin Cade – voice and guitars
Atticus Cade – voice and percussion
Oliver Cade – bass

All members have other musical projects outside The Jack Cade Rebellion. Dave has just finished a solo project CD entitled Another Day and also sings and plays guitar in duo Dave and Lucy. Martin plays in the duo Moonshine. Oliver and Atticus are founder members of the rock band New Jacket who regularly gig, and with whom Oliver plays lead guitar and sings.

Torrox News – ¨The best tapas ever in Torrox? Of course at De Oranjerie!¨, says Manolo, a local Spanish resident

De Oranjerie Torrox-Costa is a Dutch owned bistro that started their business along the Torrox-Costa promenade in March 2016. You will find typical Dutch snacks on their menu like the Dutch ¨frikandel¨ and crunchy croquet filled with the finest ragout. Apart from these snacks, the Indonesian satay with peanut butter sauce has become very popular in just a few weeks time!

However, based on the demand from the very international guests they have been welcoming from the beginning, De Oranjerie Torrox-Costa have changed their menu completely. They still offer the famous typical Dutch snacks but also for example meal salads, grilled sandwiches with cheese and ham, Dutch herring and Spanish tapas in a different way. ¨We were very posititively surprised when we got feedback from the local Spanish residents regarding our tapas¨, say Henny and Armand the owners of De Oranjerie. They add: ¨One of our Spanish guests named Manolo even said he enjoyed the best tapas in Torrox  ever in our bistro¨.

The main dishes on the new menu are offering quality food at a reasonable price. The pork in bread crumbs (schnitzel), Greek gyros and Angus beef burgers among other dishes are highly appreciated.

De Oranjerie Torrox-Costa is located along the Torrox-Costa promenade. Coming from the lighthouse it is the 4th restaurant on the right you will easily recognize. They open from Monday till Saturday from 12pm till 12am.
