Soms zijn er van die momenten…

In de eerste plaats: ik ben Nederlander in Spanje. Op dit moment al langer dan 11 jaar.  Ik hou van lekker eten en herinner me dat ik een keer trek kreeg in een Hollandse hap. Helaas lag het bekende Torremolinos wat ver weg. Maar gelukkig was er in het nabij gelegen Torrox-Costa een Rotterdammer met een gezellige bistro-bar. Hier kon ik terecht.

Wat er verder gebeurde? Nou, bij dat ene bezoek bleef het niet! Het werd min of meer mijn stamkroeg waar ik tevens voetbalwedstrijden van de Nederlandse clubs kon volgen. En dat meestal onder het genot van onmisbare Nederlandse snacks of een heerlijke Hollandse biefstuk natuurlijk.

Uiteraard ging het leven verder en na dik 10 jaar had de Rotterdammer andere ambities gekregen. Hij vertrok naar het mij ook zeer bekende Chili. En de gezellige bistro-bar werd overgedragen aan een Nederlands-Spaans koppel. Samengevat kunnen we zeggen dat ze er in korte tijd wat moois van hadden gemaakt! Maar helaas was het uitbaten van de bistro-bar ook maar voor korte tijd. Het leven heeft zo zijn goede en minder goede tijden. En om privéredenen moest het koppel de zaak helaas stoppen.

En het verhaal ging verder. Voor de 73-jarige Nederlandse eigenaresse was dit het moment om het pand van de hand te doen. Wegens haar leeftijd wilde ze het pand liever niet meer verhuren. Ze vond het beter om het voor een interessante prijs te verkopen. En interessant is die prijs zeker!! Wat dacht u: voor niet meer dan 75.000 Euro bent u eigenaar van dit pand met deze eigenschappen:

2 – 3 Slaapkamers,
1 badkamer,
2 separate WC´s,
bebouwde ruimte 140m2,
groot terras 40m2,
op 20 meter van de boulevard en het strand

Bistro-bar, appartement of beide?

Tot nu toe hebben we het steeds gehad over een bistro-bar. Maar waarom zou u deze huidige bistro-bar niet veranderen in een huurappartement? In de eerste plaats hebben diverse buren hetzelfde gedaan. Daarnaast is een dergelijk appartement zo dichtbij zee heel erg succesvol in de verhuur. Potentiële huurders zijn er genoeg! En voor zowel vakantieverhuur als lange termijn.

Gemeente Torrox en zijn burgemeester en wethouder van toerisme

Burgemeester Óscar Medina España en zijn wethouder van toerisme Sandra Extremera doen hun uiterste best om Torrox nog meer op de kaart te zetten dan het al is. Niet voor niks zijn ze elk jaar aanwezig op de grote vakantiebeurzen zoals in Londen en Berlijn. Verder is het belangrijk om te vermelden dat Torrox een magneet is voor buitenlandse toeristen en huizenkopers. Bent u ondernemend, dan is succes met dit pand haast verzekerd. Als verhuurappartement, AirBNB of gewoon als horecapand dat  u kunt verhuren of desgewenst zelf kunt uitbaten vanaf dag één.

Kentucky Fried Chicken – KFC – in Torrox or Nerja? Try the Canarian fried chicken at Que Pasa in Torrox-Costa!

Is there a KFC in Torrox or Nerja?

The Costa del Sol resorts of Torrox and Nerja have become more and more popular in the last few years. Nerja has been famous for its attractiveness and nice bays for many, many years. Torrox, however, has been gaining lots of popularity in the recent years. First of all thanks to its rich history and natural resources. Have you ever visited its large beach adjacent to a promenade full of bars, restaurants and entertainment? Both the (main) beach and the promenade start at the lighthouse and end in neighbouring El Morche. Secondly, the local government has invested many time and money in promoting Torrox and it surroundings. Check the Facebook pages of Mayor Óscar Medina España and of Councillor of Tourism Sandra Extremera to find out what they have done in order to promote Torrox both in Spain and abroad in the last few years, including on trade fairs in London and Berlin. In addition, they consult local foreign residents so that these can help them promoting Torrox in their home countries like for example in Germany and Norway.

Nice, but what about KFC in Torrox and Nerja?

My apologies, this post indeed is about whether or not you will find a Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC in Torrox or Nerja. The answer is ¨no¨. But does this mean you that cannot enjoy that specific American-style fried chicken in this area? I might have good news for you! On my daily walk over the Torrox-Costa promenade mentioned above, I found out that there were new people in a place where a good friend of mine operated a Brazilian food concept between 2009 and 2015. From 2015 another Brazilian guy continued that business until recently. Today I saw other people around including a sign that says ¨Qué Pasa¨, the name of this new restaurant located first line beach on the Torrox-Costa promenade. I started a chat with Manuel, a Spanish guy from the Canary Islands. After some small talk he recommended me to try the ¨Canarian fried chicken¨. To be honest, I did not know what to expect at all. I tried to stay close to the famous KFC concept and ordered (Canarian) coleslaw, a corncob and 3 pieces of Canarian fried chicken. Of course taste is very personal, but what I concluded during and after the meal was that I like this Canarian fried chicken much more than KFC. By the way, my wife fully agreed!

So the Canarian fried chicken at Que Pasa in Torrox-Costa is a good alternative for KFC?

In my personal opinion it certainly is. But again, taste is very personal! If I were you I would certainly try the Canarian fried chicken at Que Pasa en Torrox-Costa. You will find them on the corner with Avenida América, located between Ferrara and Arco Iris.

The Ministry of Development (Fomento) just reported a healthy rise in foreign sales, particularly in Torrox-Costa where a major part of all house sales in Q2 2016 went to non-Spanish buyers.

British buyers continue to dominate demand in Torrox-Costa, Nerja and along the Costa del Sol. This will increase in 2017, especially for Torrox-Costa and based on the many efforts the local government does to invite international buyers and tourists to this place known for having the best climate in Europe. Last week the local mayor Oscar Medina España and the Councillor for Tourism Sandra Extremera attended the World Travel Market in London where they signed contracts with various British tour operators.

Today 23 June 2016 the famous Spanish director and actor Jaime Ordóñez did his casting of support actors for his next film. According to Torrox Council member Sandra Extremera this casting was done today between 12.00 and 2.00pm in the Salón de Usos Múltiples in Torrox-Costa. The filming is planned in Torrox (El Morche) for one of the days 12, 13 and 14 July. Most people know Jaime Ordóñez as a popular Spanish actor, mostly known from the famous series on Antena 3 ¨Aquí no hay quien viva¨ and from his work together with José Mota that he has been doing for 7 years now. Jaime Ordóñez was born in Málaga in 1971.
